Lisa Herod - Specialist Neurophysiotherapist

Lisa qualified with an MSc in Physiotherapy and has extensive experience in the care of patients with Neurological and Spinal Injuries within both the NHS and private practices. She presently works as a Senior Neuro Physiotherapist in the Multidisciplinary Neuro and Spinal Teams.  Lisa is experienced in managing complex rehabilitation needs and providing post-acute rehabilitation. Her specialist interests include spinal cord injuries, complex trauma and neurological disorders (acute or chronic). 

Adam Bowley - Physiotherapist 

Adam qualified with a MSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and specialises in spinal injuries, peri- and post-operatively, including rehabilitation with patients recovering from spinal cord injuries. Adam also works in elite sport and with young athletes involved in elite player pathways. With a history of personal training and a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Exercise Science  Adam   can take   a  range   of   patients  through   their   rehabilitation journeys   including  safe   and   effective  performance   management   and return to sport, using a range of modalities including, resistance training and hydrotherapy.

Karen Ford - Musculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapist

Karen qualified in 2002 at the University of Brighton and since then she has gained considerable musculoskeletal experience working across a variety of private, NHS and sports settings.  She previously led the outpatient service at Holy Cross Hospital, a specialist hospital for patients with complex medical needs and has also worked with local sports teams to provide pitch-side physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Karen works as a Senior Physiotherapist working with orthopaedic and musculoskeletal outpatients and is completing her Masters in Sports Physiotherapy at Bath University. She retains her passion for her profession and enjoys working closely with clients to achieve their individual goals.

Jake Haytread - Neurophysiotherapist

Jake graduated from Southampton University with BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. As a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists Jake currently manages patients with complex rehabilitation needs, specialising in neurology. Alongside this, Jake is a qualified sports massage therapist.

Amy Hutchings - Therapy Technician

Amy works as a Therapy Technician within Trauma and Orthopaedics, gaining a wealth of knowledge and experience. She has gained experience in managing patients with traumas, elderly falls, elective surgery and minor injuries. Alongside assisting with the Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, she also independently assists patients with exercises and develop exercise programmes for acute and long-term rehabilitation plans, as well as progression of mobility.  She has a twenty-year background in Sports Science, coaching and development, which have given her the skills to excel in her role as a Therapy Technician. 

Emma Childs – Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

Since qualifying with a 1st BSc (Hons) in Speech & Language Therapy, Emma has been working with a variety of NHS and private clients. The majority of her work has focussed on providing assessment and therapy for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. Over the past few years Emma has built up her specialist skills in Neuro, with a particular focus on brain injury, stroke and trauma. Her private work has also included working with ENT (Ears, Nose & Throat), building further skills for supporting clients to manage chronic cough, altered sensations, swallowing and voice disorders.

 

Psychology Team

Dr Liz Griffett - Neuropsychologist

Dr   Liz   Griffett holds   a  Doctorate   in   Clinical  Psychology   and is   a  Chartered   Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She trained and worked in the USA for several years, working primarily with acquired and traumatic brain injury, as well as mood and adjustment issues related to those injuries. Dr Griffett has over 10 years of practice working in the field of neuropsychology  conducting neuropsychological assessments, providing psychotherapy, and specialist neurological rehabilitation. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient and   community   settings; acute, post-acute   and  chronic   settings, and with a range of conditions including stroke, encephalitis, tumours, and mild brain injuries / concussion. Her clinical and research interests include the cognitive impact of mild traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome. Therapeutically, Dr Griffett uses a range of approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Family Systems, and Integrative Therapy.

Dr Martina Gerada - Counselling Psychologist

Dr Gerada is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), a Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). She has worked in clinical practice in primary and secondary care within the NHS for several years before branching out into private practice and academia. In therapy, she works with adults (of all ages) to treat difficulties with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, work stress, life transitions and bereavement. She also has experience working with children and adolescents with neurodevelopment disorders. Dr Gerada works mainly from a Schema Therapy (ST) perspective, incorporating knowledge and skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), CBT-E (CBT for Eating Disorders), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Meta-cognitive therapy (MCT) and attachment theory to tailor therapy to clients’ needs. She speaks three languages, English, Maltese and Italian and has experience of conducting therapy in each.

 

Medical Consultant Team

Dr Jonathan Mamo - Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine

Dr Jonathan Mamo is a Rehabilitation Consultant with experience in all aspects of neurorehabilitation. His areas of interest include complex spasticity management (including ultrasound guided botulinum toxin injections), traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, chronic neuropathic pain and musculoskeletal consequences of neurological diseases. He provides specialist input within several specialist clinics within Wessex and also lectures within the University of Southampton. He provides specialist assessments within the region and is also an Expert Witness providing reports to the Court. He is registered as a specialist with the GMC and is an Educational Supervisor and Appraiser. He is a member within the British Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (BSPRM) and the Mediterranean Forum for Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (MFPRM).

Dr Luke Sammut - Consultant in Rheumatology

Dr  Luke   Sammut   is  a   Consultant   Rheumatologist. In 2011, he undertook his master’s degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine under the auspices of the University of Glasgow. His   practise  is   diverse   and  spans   the entire   range  of   rheumatology   from  localised   back   or  soft-tissue rheumatism to multisystem disease. He has extensive experience in carrying out a wide range of joint injections, including ultrasound guided and non-guided. His is an educational and clinical supervisor to junior doctors and gives lectures for sports and exercise science students at Portsmouth University. He is an advisory board member of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society and represents the south-east region in the British Society for Rheumatology MDT Advisory Council.
